The Buku-Bibliotheca Surinamica collection – from the 17th century to the present day – consists of around 4000 items. The collection shows the history of Surinam in publications and other documents. These consist of the reporting of explorers, novelists, scientists, journalists, pastors, plantation owners, artists and photographers. The collection also depicts what residents, and those who for various reasons stayed there for a long time, told about Suriname and left behind. Their relation to Surinam takes center stage and is what makes this history personal, and poses stimulating questions.
